First post and let’s talk about Gatchaman Crowds because I spent way too long contemplating humanity’s capacity to move forward or ‘upgrade’ to a better world.
I guess people praise the anime for its bright, idiosyncratic and colourful characters and rightfully so - the anime’s art style is beautiful - but I want to talk about one character - Hajime.
As a character, personally, I feel she fails as one, being utterly unrelatable, possessing scary amount of emotional intelligence and competence; she has no tangible flaws, and therefore no development nor growth throughout the anime-static. However, this is where the genius of the anime lies. Hajime is not a character in way- but an idea, a concept, and something we should all strive towards. A shining beacon of good will, encouraging understanding between people as the source of conflict comes from the inability to see other people’s perspective.
Contrasting Rui’s reliance on anonymity, Hajime constantly declares preference as to be identified as an individual. Unconventional and hard to understand, she almost represents how if a person like her truly existed how distant she would be from the world, literally transcending human comprehension as such I’m often left without words when I want to describe the anime.
In the end I adore Hajime for what she represents, her ideology and her overwhelming positive mentality, she essentially embodies the good will of humanity. And that is something worth believing in.
